About the Pennsylvania State Sunday School Association’s

"Training To Go"
Audio CD Workshop Format…

In 1999, the Pennsylvania State Sunday School Association created a workshop on the basics of teaching in the church and Sunday school. We called the workshop "What Every Sunday School Teacher Needs To Know." Over the past 8 years we have presented the workshop dozens of times to hundreds of workshop participants here in the Keystone State.

We know that the "What Every Sunday School Teacher Needs To Know" workshop is very good and very helpful to all teachers from all departments within the church and Sunday school. But, because the workshop is only presented through churches here in Pennsylvania, we feel that the workshop is not living up to its full potential. We know that it would be a great help to Sunday school and other Christian education teachers and workers all across the nation!

But, that’s not the only problems that we see. Over the past several years we have observed that is getting increasingly more difficult for churches to get their teachers and leaders to come to teachers’ meetings and special workshop training events, like a live presentation of the "What Every Sunday School Teacher Needs To Know" workshop. Everyone is so busy. Others think that they are doing okay without attending the meetings or workshops. And, for other teachers, such meetings are simply not a priority.

With these concerns in mind, several years ago we started looking at a variety of options that might be used to present the "What Every Sunday School Teacher Needs To Know" workshop in a format that would maximize its use by teachers and workers across the nation. We considered putting it on DVD or CD-ROM, but after talking with a number of Christian education experts and workers and leaders from a number of churches, we decided to put the workshop on audio CD.

We wanted to use a workshop format that could be used by individual teachers and workers on their own. If the teachers aren’t willing to come to a meeting or special workshop, we wanted to put the workshop into a format that could go to them and be used by them in a variety of everyday settings. And, audio CD just seems to be the best way of doing that.

We also wanted to keep the lessons short; our goal was to create lesson sessions about 10 to 12 minutes in length. By keeping the lessons short, we were again striving to make the material as user-friendly as possible for the maximum number of teachers and workers.

How might you use the "What Every Sunday School Teacher Needs To Know" Audio CD Workshop in your church and Sunday school? We hope that you will purchase several of the kits and begin passing them around to all of your present and prospective teachers for all of your Christian education programs. And then, as you recruit new teachers and workers, give them a copy of the audio CD workshop and ask them to listen to it before the start their work as a teacher.

As you use the "What Every Sunday School Teacher Needs To Know" Audio CD Workshop in your church, please let us know what you think and what your teachers think of both the workshop itself and the idea of using this new "Training To Go" audio CD workshop format.

And keep watching! We are already planning to begin work soon to put several of our other training workshops into the "Training To Go" audio CD workshop format. We hope to have our "Teaching As Jesus, The Master Teacher, Taught" workshop available in this new training format late in 2007.
