Making Sunday School Evangelistic

Sunday school leaders should be concerned about improving the teaching skills of their teachers. But, we should also be concerned about the evangelism skills of our teachers. Here are several reminders…

1. Make sure each teaching staff member shares your evangelistic goals, no matter what their responsibility.

2. Back up every teacher and helper with earnest prayer. Consider a program of prayer partners for every teacher.

3. Encourage each teacher to pray for each of the members of their class on a regular basis.

4. Hold training sessions for all staff members, teaching them how to clearly present the Gospel message throughout the Sunday school. Teachers should also be instructed in salvation counseling and follow-up.

5. Make sure teachers regularly challenge their students to make a commitment to Christ as a part of their class sessions.

6. Have a follow-up plan so that students who make a commitment receive guidance and counseling from the pastor or others.

Sunday school should be an important part of your church’s evangelistic outreach, but to be effective, it must be well planned.
