The 2010 "Sunday School Poster & T-Shirt Contest"
For Sunday School Children & Youth!
Hey,Kids! Do you love Sunday school? Are you creative? Do you like to draw? If you do, we would like to invite you to be a part of the 2010 "Sunday School Poster & T-Shirt Contest." Just read this brochure to find out how you can be a part of the fun. But, before you start to create your entry, be sure to read all rules carefully! Entries not conforming exactly to the rules will be disqualified!
What Is The "Sunday School Poster & T-Shirt Contest?"
For many years, the Sunday School Association sponsored the annual "Youth P.E.P. Contest" where children and youth were invited to create a poster, essay or poem (the "P.E.P.") on a yearly Sunday school theme. Several years ago we added several areas of competition and changed the name to the "P.E.P.-Plus" contest.
Recently, however, interest in several contest areas has declined and, as a result, the Youth Committee of the P.S.S.S.A. Board of Directors has made several changes in the contest, including the elimination of several areas of competition and by changing the name to the "Sunday School Poster & T-Shirt Contest."
In the new "Sunday School Poster & T-Shirt Contest" we invite children and youth to combine their creative, artistic and writing talents with their love of Sunday school as they create a poster (traditional "artist created" poster or "computer generated" mini-posters), or a T-shirt on the yearly theme.
Items must first be entered in a County or District contest.* The winning entry from each age group of each contest at the county level is then eligible to go on to the statewide contest.
(*) - In counties where there is no organized Sunday School Association or where the S.S.A. does not hold a county contest, local churches may hold their own contest and submit winners to the State Final.
Important Notes:
- The statewide contest will run from January 1, 2010 to October 1, 2010. First place winners in the 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-19 age groups from each local contest must be submitted to the P.S.S.S.A. Office by October 1, 2009 for the statewide final.
- Winning entries (first & second place) from the statewide contest will be displayed at the 2010 PA State Sunday School Convention, October 22 & 23, in Carlisle, PA.
- Churches and other local contests may also hold contests for 3 to 5 year olds. However, the entries in the 3-5 age group will not be judged and prizes will not be given at the statewide level.
- Prizes at the state level will be as follows: First place - $20.00; second place - $10.00
Who May Enter?
Children and youth, age 6 through 19, who are members of a Pennsylvania Sunday school are welcome to participate. Contest judging is held in four different age groups: 6-8; 9-11; 12-14; and 15-19. First place winners in each age group will advance to a statewide contest in October. Each entry must be the work of one individual. Individuals are welcome to enter more than one category.
The "entry form" which is found in this brochure (listing the name, address, age, church and county of the creator) MUST be completed and attached to back of each entry. Photocopies of the entry form may be made.
Again this year we want to display state winners on the P.S.S.S.A.'s Internet web--site (www.SundaySchoolHelp.com). To legally do this, we need the permission from a parent or guardian of the child creating the work. Therefore, please be sure that one of your parents or guardian signs the entry form where indicated.
About The Two Poster Categories:
Several years ago we divided the poster category into two divisions. First, there is the traditional "artist created" posters. These posters must be 14" x 22" in size and can be created using pencil, ink, markers, paint, stencils or collage. The other poster category is for "computer generated" mini-posters. These are posters that are, as the name indicates, designed, created and printed using a computer. See the rules below for complete details.
What Is The 2010 Contest Theme?
The 2010 contest theme is "The Bible Is Important Because..." Each entry should in some way "convey" the theme. The words of the theme do not need to appear on the entry.
