Announcing...

The 2008 "Youth P.E.P.-Plus Contest"
for Sunday School Children and Youth!

Hey, Kids! Do you love Sunday school? Are you creative? Do you like to write? Do you like to draw? If you do, we would like to invite you to be a part of the 2008 "Youth P.E.P.-Plus Contest!" Just read this information to find out how you can be a part of the fun. But, before you start to create your entry, be sure to read all rules carefully! Entries not conforming exactly to the rules will be disqualified!

What Is The "P.E.P.-Plus Contest"?

In the "P.E.P.-Plus Contest" we invite children and youth to combine their creative, artistic and writing talents with their love of Sunday school as they create posters (traditional "artist created" posters and "computer generated" mini-posters), writing (essays & poems), and T-shirts on the yearly theme.

Items must first be entered in a County or District contest.* The winning entry from each age group (except the 3-5 age group) of each contest at the county level is then eligible to go on to the statewide contest.

(*) - In counties where there is no organized Sunday School Association or where the S.S.A. does not hold a county contest, local churches may hold their own contest and submit winners to the State Final as representatives of their county. Should more than one church hold a contest in these areas, the P.S.S.S.A. will hold a judging to determine one winner in each age group to represent that county.

Important Notes Related to the Contest:

The following changes were made in 2007 and will continue in 2008...

- The 2008 statewide contest will run from January 1, 2008, to October 1, 2008. First place winners in the 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-19 age groups from each local contest must be submitted to the P.S.S.S.A. Office by October 1, 2007.

- Winning entries (first & second place) from the statewide contest will be displayed at the 2008 PA State Sunday School Convention, October 24 & 25, in Lancaster, PA.

- We have eliminated the "book cover" category AND we have combined the "poetry" and "essay" categories into a general "writing" category. Entries in the "writing" category may be either in essay or poem form.

- Entries in the 3-5 age group can be judged at the local county level, but they will not be judged and prizes will not be given at the statewide level.

- Prizes at the state level will be as follows: First place - $20.00; second place - $10.00

Who May Enter?

Children and youth, age 3 through 19, who are members of a Pennsylvania Sunday school are welcome to participate. Contest judging is held in five different age groups: 3-5; 6-8; 9-11; 12-14; and 15-19. First place winners in each age group (except the 3-5 age group) will advance to a statewide contest in October. Each entry must be the work of one individual. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE FROM A SUNDAY SCHOOL LOCATED IN THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA! Churches outside Pennsylvania are invited to use our contest theme and rules to conduct their own contests, however these entries are not eligible to be entered in the P.S.S.S.A.'s statewide final for the contest.

The "entry form" which is found below (listing the name, address, age, church and county of the creator) MUST be completed and attached to back of each entry. Photocopies of the entry form may be made. Individuals are welcome to enter more than one contest.

Again this year we want to display state winners on the P.S.S.S.A.'s Internet web-site (www.SundaySchoolHelp.com). Winning entries may also be reproduced in the P.S.S.S.A. newsletter. To legally do this, we need the permission from a parent or guardian of the child creating the work. Therefore, please be sure that one of your parents or guardian signs the entry form where indicated.

About The Two Poster Categories:

Several years ago we divided the poster category into two divisions. First, there is the traditional "artist created" poster. These posters must be 14" x 22" in size and can be created using pencil, ink, markers, paint or collage. The other poster category is for "computer generated" mini-posters. These are posters that are, as the name indicates, designed, created and printed using a computer. See the rules below for complete details.

What Is The 2008 Contest Theme?

The 2008 contest theme is "What Would Jesus Do?." Each entry should in some way answer this question and/or "convey" the theme. The wording of the theme need not be listed on the entry.
